CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2017 - 56 <br />By: Councilmembers Schumann and Rahm <br />A RESOL UTION DESIGNATING THE LOBBY OF THE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED POLICE STATION AS AN INTERNET PURCHASE SAFE <br />ZONE, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, individuals have long been using the internet as a means to conduct private <br />sales of personal property; and <br />WHEREAS, criminals posing as purchasers have seized upon private transfers / sales of <br />property as an opportunity to commit crimes against sellers including, theft, robbery and assault; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the City of North Olmsted Police Department, 27243 Lorain Road, North <br />Olmsted, OH 44070, is open and staffed twenty four (24) hours a day, three hundred and sixty <br />five (365) days a year; and <br />WHEREAS, the staffing in the City of North Olmsted Police Station creates an ideal <br />environment to facilitate transfers of money for private sales, while deterring thefts and other <br />criminal activity; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council and the Administration to designate the lobby <br />of the City of North Olmsted Police Station as an internet purchase safe zone. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the lobby of the City of North Olmsted Police Station, 27243 Lorain <br />Road, North Olmsted, OH 44070, be and the same is hereby established as an Internet Purchase <br />Safe Zone, open to the public and made available to effectuate the sale, purchase and transfer of <br />private property. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare, and further <br />for the reason that it is necessary that this Resolution go into effect immediately in order to <br />provide a safe environment for face-to-face transfers of funds for purchases made over the <br />internet; and further provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members of <br />Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by the <br />Mayor. <br />PASSED: SF�c-M V <br />First Reading: <br />Second Reading: <br />Third Reading: <br />Committee.
