RESOLUTION NO. 18-53 <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />TO CONSIDER LEGISLATION TO INCREASE THE SAFETY <br />AND SECURITY OF ALL RESIDENTS <br />WHEREAS, incidents of gun violence have become more frequent in America; and <br />WHEREAS, North Olmsted students, their families, school employees and school visitors <br />deserve to feel and be secure in the School District or on any public property; and <br />WHEREAS, preventing violent incidents is the shared responsibility of all citizens, including, <br />but not limited to, School District personnel, local government officials and law enforcement <br />agencies; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Seattle, Washington recently introduced a local ordinance related to the <br />safe storage of and access to firearms, and proposed civil fines under certain conditions to any person <br />who fails to properly secure his or her firearms; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Seattle, Washington also introduced a local ordinance mandating <br />firearm owners to report any lost or stolen firearms to local authorities within 24 hours after the theft <br />or loss has been discovered; and <br />WHEREAS, the North Olmsted Board of Education believes the safety and security of all North <br />Olmsted residents and its visitors is an issue of paramount importance and that any reasonable <br />measure which may increase the safety and security of all such people should be reviewed for <br />possible implementation; <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, on .Tune 20, 2018, the Board of Education of the <br />North Olmsted City School District requests that, while recognizing the constitution and laws of the <br />United States and the State of Ohio, the North Olmsted City Council and/or City Administration <br />consider a comparable local ordinance or legislation regarding the safe storage of and access to <br />firearms and/or the reporting of lost or stolen firearms, and any other actions deemed appropriate <br />under those or analogous pieces of legislation. <br />Mr. Herbster Yes Mrs. Cleary Yes <br />Mr. Groden Yes Mr. Lasko Yes <br />
