CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2021 - 44 <br />By: Mayor Kennedy <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE ON BEHALF <br />OF THE CITY TO APPLY TO THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE <br />(DOJ) OFFICE OF COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES <br />(COPS) FOR GRANT FUNDING PURSUANT TO ITS 2021 HIRING <br />PROGRAM, FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO <br />AGREEMENT TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT FUNDS, AND DECLARING AN <br />EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the United State Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Community <br />Oriented Policing Services (COPS) is accepting grant funding applications from qualified law <br />enforcement agencies for its 2021 Hiring Program; <br />WHEREAS, if awarded, the COPS funding may support a maximum of $125,000.00 in <br />salary assistance per COPS officer during three years of the five-year program, subject to 25% in <br />matching funds contributed by the City; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to authorize the Chief of Police to apply, on <br />behalf of the City, to the DOJ for a COPS 2021 Hiring Program. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Chief of Police is hereby authorized to apply to the DOJ for grant <br />funding pursuant to the COPS 2021 Hiring Program. <br />SECTION 2: That the Mayor be, and he hereby is, authorized to accept grant funding, <br />on behalf of the City of North Olmsted, as may be awarded by the DOJ pursuant to the COPS <br />2021 Hiring Program, including the City's commitment of local matching funds of 25%, and <br />further authorizing the Mayor to execute any program agreements, if required, to effectuate the <br />City's receipt of the COPS grant. <br />SECTION 3: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare and for the <br />further reason that it is necessary that this legislation go into effect immediately because of the <br />grant application deadline (June 15, 2021); and further provided that it receives the affirmative <br />vote of two-thirds of all members of Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately <br />upon its passage and approval by the Mayor. <br />PASSED: �vf\� I , Z��, First Reading: <br />Second Reading: <br />Third Reading: <br />
