Special Council Minutes of 07-05-2022
Pam Chesser
Retired from the Police Department after 30 years. Relayed a story of a person who came into
the police department because his friend was in the parking lot having a reaction from a bee
sting. The fire dispatcher was there dispatching the fire, and another dispatcher there had an
EPI pen and saved his life. Ms. Chesser stated she felt like Council and the Administration
looked bored.
Mike Babinec
27981 North Park Drive
Resident for over 30 years. He lives at North Park Drive and North Park Estates is just a minute
away. Stated his son had to call 911 for a relative and everything went flawlessly. Relayed
other stories wherein if dispatchers were not familiar with the City, things would have gone
badly.
Riley Vertosnik
3569 Columbia Road
Plans on being a law enforcement officer and would like to be a police officer in his own city,
and feels that it would be a lot easier if the dispatchers were in the same city.
Barb Abraham
6252 Pebblebrook Lane
Has lived in North Olmsted for 33 years. Has been pleased with dispatch center and when she
found out about this, she went on a search for information and a reason for pushing this
through, and has not received anything. Noted that Councilwoman Hemann spoke with her but
did not have the information. Stated she would be willing to pay $12 extra a year to keep
dispatch in North Olmsted. Councilwoman Hemann responded to Ms. Abraham showing the
stack of papers she brought with her when they spoke, and noted she also left information with
Ms. Abraham.
Beth Cabrera
Former North Olmsted Dispatcher
Shared a story about a call she received for an eight-day old baby chocking and she was able to
help to save the baby., noting that time is of the essence and asking Council and the
Administration to consider that when making a decision.
Mark Madden
North Olmsted dispatcher
Been a resident for 42 years and 27 of those years as a dispatcher. Trying to figure out what to
say to convince everyone that this is a terrible idea, especially at the pace its going. Feels there
has been a lot of misinformation. He is not familiar enough with the east side to dispatch for
them and feels this change will result in costly errors. Noted that this will be Council's most
important vote in their careers. Mr. Madden feels this is a decision to be made by the Council of
Government.
Carrie Maxwell
24357 Laverne
Has lived in North Olmsted since 1964. Feels this is a very important issue for the City and has
had to call regionalized centers before and said it was very uncomfortable, but when she has
called North Olmsted Dispatch Center it has been a comforting feeling that they know where
everything is.
