CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED RESOLUTION NO. 2023 - 124 By: Mayor Jones A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY, TO ACCEPT GRANT FUNDING IN THE AMOUNT OF $256,588.00 FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS (OJP), ENTITLED RURAL AND SMALL DEPARTMENT VIOLENT CRIME REDUCTION PROGRAM" IN ORDER TO EXPAND THE POOL OF POLICE OFFICERS TRAINED ON THE ADVANCED CRISIS INTERVENTION TEAM (CIT); AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE ACCEPTANCE DOCUMENTATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AS WELL AS WITH THE BEGUN CENTER FOR VIOLENCE PREVENTION, RESEARCH AND EDUCATION AND ANALYTICS, AND DECLARINGAN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the Director of Public Safety is pleased to announce and inform the Council that the City of North Olmsted has been selected and awarded grant funding in the amount of $256,588.00 by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs (OJP) for the Rural and Small Department Violent Crime Reduction Program; and WHEREAS, the grant funding will enable the North Olmsted Police Department (NOPD) to expand the pool of police officers trained on the Advanced Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), to enhance data collection and to better utilize analytics to measure effectiveness; and WHEREAS, further, the grant funding will enable NOPD to contract with the Case Western Reserve University Began Center for Violence Prevention, Research and Education for expertise, training and research; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to authorize the Mayor to accept grant funding from the OJP, to execute acceptance documentation and otherwise administer same; and WHEREAS, it is the further desire of this Council to authorize the Mayor to enter into an Agreement with the Case Western Reserve University Begun Center for Violence Prevention, Research and Education for expertise, training and research. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTHOLMSTED, COUNTYOF CUYAHOGA AND STATEOFOHIO: SECTION 1: That the Mayor be and is hereby authorized to accept grant funding awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice in the amount of $256,588.00 and to execute documentation in compliance with grant funding requirements for the FY 2023 Rural and Small Department Violent Crime Reduction Program.
