CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2024 - 9 <br />By: Mayor Jones <br />A RESOLUTION APPROVING OF AND AUTHORIZING THE <br />MAYOR TO ENTER INTO A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING <br />AGREEMENT WITH OHIO COUNCIL 8, LOCAL 2681, OF THE <br />AMERICANFEDERATIONOFSTATE, COUNTYAND MUNICIPAL <br />EMPLOYEES (`AFSCME-), FOR THE CITY SERVICE UNIT, FOR <br />THE PERIOD JANUARY 1, 2024 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 1026, <br />AND DECLARING ANEMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, Ohio law provides for the recognition of public sector labor unions and <br />for municipal corporations to negotiate collective bargaining agreements with such unions that <br />have been recognized as the bargaining agents for their public employees; and <br />WHEREAS, the Ohio Council 8, Local 2681, of the American Federation of State, <br />County and Municipal Employees (hereinafter, "AFSCME") has been recognized as the <br />exclusive bargaining agent for the City's service workers; and <br />WHEREAS, the Administration conducted negotiations with AFSCME representing <br />the interests of the members of said bargaining units in 2023; and <br />WHEREAS, the Administration successfully negotiated an agreement on all of the <br />issues that were presented during the collective bargaining negotiations between the <br />Administration and AFSCME, and the agreement that was negotiated is satisfactory to both <br />the Administration and the bargaining unit members; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to approve of and authorize the Mayor to <br />enter into a collective bargaining agreement with AFSCME on behalf of, respectively, the <br />City's service workers, for the period January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2026. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the collective bargaining agreement negotiated by and between the <br />Administration and Ohio Council 8, Local 2681, of the American Federation of State, County <br />and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO (hereinafter, "AFSCME"), a copy of which is attached to <br />this legislation as Exhibit A, is hereby approved and the Mayor is authorized to execute said <br />agreement. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare and for the <br />further reason that immediate authorization will carry into effect the changes to the wages, <br />
