• In terms of property maintenance case, we have a house on Elder that was
condemned as vacant; it's at 28625 Elder. We filed suit to force abatement of the
nuisance. That judicial action prompted an intervention by a house restoration
company as the buyer. We agreed to extend the period to abate the condition. It
was quite poor condition. To abate nuisance, primarily interior mold due to flooding,
unabated water leaks, and things like that. If it can't be remediated and salvaged, it
must be raised. We've done that in the past. I've reported that before. And we hope
to do that without the city spending any dollars in trying to get reimbursed.
• Again, that's another thing you didn't used to see in North Olmsted. We've had
several houses we've had to take down because maintenance issues, abandonment,
mold. People just have ceased living in them, and then they begin to immediately
deteriorate.
• We are also working on a new and revised Homecoming Agreement with the Safety
Department, for the North Olmsted Community Council. Trying to tighten up some
of the conditions of using North Olmsted Park, to give us more tools to be able to
regulate things that might go on there, that might be disruptive to the North
Olmsted homecoming activities. So we've created that agreement and that's out the
door.
• We're also finalizing the Forest property. I should have a closing date for that set
very soon, so that project can be fully underway. Thank you, that concludes my
report.
Council President Brossard:
Thank you. Director of Finance Copfer, do you have a report this evening?
Finance Director Copfer:
Yes, I do. I was pointed out that procrastination sometimes doesn't work out in my favor
because I just sat down to write my report at 10 after 4. So it is on my computer, and I can't
get to it.
• However, I will catch you up with all the other things; the one thing I do want to say
is that the Auditor of State did issue a mandatory fraud training that's eight minutes
long; and I want to thank the HR director for beating it down to procedures so
quickly, and getting it out there so that it wasn't a headache to anybody and very
organized, and I really appreciate that, and I know the Mayor does too, because all I
said was "ugh" when I saw it.
• Also, you know it must be pretty bad, my granddaughter wanted to come up today
because she's so bored at home with no electricity that she wanted to come to a
council meeting; I spared us all, and that concludes my report.
Council President Brossard:
Thank you. Moving into Council Committee Reports. Councilman Limpert, Chairman of the
Building, Zoning, and Development Committee, do you have a report?
08-06-24 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 5
