Leading pedestrian intervals: <br />A leading pedestrian interval (LPI) gives pedestrians <br />an advance walk signal before motorists get <br />a green signal, giving the pedestrian several <br />seconds to start walking in the crosswalk before <br />a concurrent signal is provided to vehicles. This <br />makes pedestrians more visible to motorists and <br />motorists more likely to yield to them. Typically, <br />LPI settings provide 3 to 6 seconds of advance <br />walk time. <br />Multi -use paths: <br />Given the desires of the community coupled <br />with the need expressed through the survey data <br />and public meetings, there is a distinct need for <br />the creation of bicycle facilities and a preference <br />for off-road facilities. A multi -use path is the <br />preferred path configuration because it provides <br />separation between pedestrians and bicycles and <br />the roadway. resulting in a more comfortable and <br />safe walking experience.
