Council seat. However, Council did advertise the Ward II Council position on the City's website
as well as in the West Life newspaper, and we interviewed all candidates that applied.
With that being said, the nomination and voting process is as follows; similar to what we just
did for President Pro Tem. The floor will open for nominations. This is not a vote, rather an act
of Council to offer a name to be placed for consideration for the Ward II seat. Our City Charter
and Rules of Council allows anyone's name to be placed for nomination to fill a spot, whether
they participated in Council's interview process or not. A Councilmember may ask to be
recognized and will place a name for nomination. When someone's name is placed for
nomination, it does not need to be seconded, allowing for one nomination or several. Once
Council no longer offers any more nominations, the floor will be closed to nominations. We will
then ask the clerk to call the roll, and once a member's name is called, they will state the name
of the person they wish to fill the Ward II vacancy. If a nominated person receives four votes,
then that person will be appointed to the Ward II seat to fill the remainder of that term. If two
people receive three votes each, then the President of Council will vote to break the tie. If no
one receives four votes and there is not a tie, then we will again open the floor for nominations
and Council will begin the process again until a nominee has been chosen with the majority of
votes.
That was a lot, right? Are there any questions from Council on this process? At this time, 1 will
open the floor for members of Council to nominate an individual to fill the Ward II vacancy for
the unexpired term to end on December 31, 2025. Any City Council member may nominate any
person qualified for service pursuant to the Charter Article 4, Section 2. The floor is now open
for nominations.
Councilwoman Hemann:
Mr. President, I'd like to nominate Matt Marrie, please.
Council President Brossard:
Are there any other nominations? Seeing no further nominations, the floor is now closed for
nominations and we will do a roll call.
Again, when your name is called, please state the name of the person for whom you are casting
your vote. Roll call, please.
Council Clerk:
Ms. Hemann: Matt Marrie
Ms. Gilchrist: Matt Marrie
Mr. Madden: Matt Marrie
Mr. Scarl: Mr. Matt Marrie
Mr. Shymske: Matt Marrie
Mr. Limpert: Matt Marrie
01-07-25 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 9
