Section 3: Community Engagement <br />Community engagement is an essential tool in the STP development process. Involving the public builds trust in <br />the Plan and improves the overall quality of the findings. The project team used several strategies to collect <br />public input including information tables at football games, public meeting participation, and surveys. <br />Caregiver Survey <br />The Ohio Department of Transportation's Safe Routes to School Caregiversurvey is distributed amongst the <br />school district's caregivers to allow for better understanding of their concerns and viewpoints regarding their <br />children walking or biking to school. For North Olmsted City Schools, a total of 423 surveys were completed (88, <br />94, and 241 surveys for North Olmsted High School, Middle School, and the new Primary School respectively). <br />The surveys are used to help inform the School Travel Plan recommendations and countermeasures. <br />Parent Attitudes Towards Walking and Biking <br />How much fun is walking or biking to/ from school for your child? <br />ax <br />North Olmsted North Olmsted North Olmsted New <br />High School Middle School Primary School <br />•VMyFun N. •N.umet •gori, •V.,aeMF <br />Though most caregivers have a neutral perspective regarding the survey question, it is observed that more <br />primary school caregivers find walking and biking to school as a fun activity for students to do. 44% of the North <br />Olmsted Primary School caregiver survey participants find walking and biking to school for students fun and very <br />fun, as compared to 11% and 21% for the high school and middle school respectively. <br />4k A A A 21 <br />
