Infrastructure Countermeasure Recommendations
This plan makes recommendations to promote and support Safe Routes to School through a combination of infrastructure projects and poor
infrastructure countermeasures. Infrastructure recommendations refer to physical, built projects that change how roadways are configured to
Provide space for students walking and biking. Local infrastructure and routes will help students access schools. The e7breffame" column
indicates the time it will take to implement the strategy, with Short Term being 0-3 years, Medium Term being 4-7 years, and Long Term being 8
or more years. The estimated cost of the projects is classified as High ($1501 or higher), Medium (between $20,000 and $150,000), and Low
($30,000 or below). The locations of the recommendations shown on the following pages were developed with Input from field observations,
stakeholder guidance, and public input.
Table 7.Inlmbutive RecwnmeM akeen
p Project Type Oessripccn School Location le ¢Ity cost Timeframe
Add mid -block crossings with a
mid -block refuge median to All target schools Lorain Road High Medium Long
1 Crosswalk Enhancement provide students with more term
accessible crossing points.
Crosswalk Re Ise the croswal k to be flushed North Olmsted Middle Butternut Long
2 Enhancements with the curb, providing priority School, North Olmsted Ridge Road High Low term
for pedestrians High School
Add pathway Them Salami North Olmsted Middle School g
3 Sidewalk Improvements backdoor to the Butternut Ridge School, North Olmsted Premise Medium High to
Road sidewalks High School
close access point to RoIlHouse
North Olmsted closest to the () New North Olmsted Short
4 Driveway Access Waiter Rd/ Lorain Rd Intersection Lorain Road High Low
Management Elementary School term
to manage driveway access near
the new school intersection.
Provide sidewalks/ shared used Long
5 Sidewalk Improvement path to Elm Rd to connect All target schools Along 6480 Low High term
neighborhood to routes to schools
