there were four car carriers unloading cars. It is dangerous... drivers driving on Lorain cannot
see if there's another car that's going to be turning into that lane or turning across it. We were
promised that would not happen. And not only are they doing it on Lorain Road, they're now
doing it on Root Road. They park right at the very corner of Lorain and Root Road and start
unloading cars. It's illegal. There's two solutions to it. One, the managers of the car dealerships
should have a telephone number given to the car carriers and notify them an hour in advance
of when they're coming. Because the City promised us that every one of these car dealerships
had the room to bring these car carriers in to unload. There's no reason for them to be
unloading on Lorain Road. And it's not the driver's fault. It's Ganley's and the other dealerships,
because they tell them where to unload. Now, the other one, is for the City to bring a hammer
down on them every time they catch one of these guys unloading, and again, it's not the
driver's fault, they start penalizing the dealerships. It's a safety issue for everybody, and Root
Road is a country street. Mr. Brossard knows it; he drives down it every day. We've got
sidewalks on one side of the street, it's a narrow road, and it's not a 90 -degree turn off Lorain
Road. Anybody driving West on Lorain, and there's a car carrier there, you have no idea if
there's a car sitting there waiting to turn onto Lorain Road. So something has to be done about
it. There's no reason for these guys to be parking in the middle of Lorain Road for an hour and a
half while they unload cars. I cannot believe that the City puts up with it, and I have called the
police every time I see them. The police are aware of it, and nothing gets done about it. I try to
be a peaceful person, as Mr. Brossard knows, but this has got to stop. There is absolutely no
reason for it. And as a side note, as pointed out today, this winter was almost a normal winter;
again, many of these commercial frontages on Lorain have frontage on non-commercial streets
like Root Road. They aren't taking the snow off their sidewalks. In fact, Ganley has a 6 -foot pile
of snow blocking the sidewalk. That's not right. All the citizens on the street, they take care of
their sidewalks, but they never do. It forces people to walk out into the street to get up to
Lorain Road. I know that this is big income from these car dealerships, but let's start taking care
of the residents and the people who drive on these streets. Thank you.
Council President Brossard:
Councilman Limpert?
Councilman Limpert:
Madam Mayor, can we get some statistics on sightings for people parking in the middle of the
road? I know I've noticed a little bit of an uptick down on the west side. I would just be
interested to see what that looks like as far as citings. Thank you.
Mayor Jones:
Yes.
Council President Brossard:
Seeing no other comments from the audience, we will now move into legislation.
02-18-25 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 9
