happy to provide our residents the ability to hear directly from NOPEC right here in the
City of North Olmsted. So I would encourage your residents to please attend this
meeting regarding the natural gas prices that we will be seeing in the future.
Next, you will be receiving, if you didn't already today, I know Director Copfer received
hers, a potential post office relocation comment period flyer in your mail. The post
office, as you know, again, is not a City of North Olmsted function. We do not have
anything to do with the building or where they're located. However, as you have heard
me speak before, the building is in terrible condition, and I am pleased that the post
office is taking comments from our residents regarding their relocation. Director Upton
has been in contact with the real estate agents for the post office to make sure that they
understand all of the available spaces here in the city for those functions. And again, as
Council Members, I would ask that you please ask your residents to respond during this
comment period so that the post office understands how much we need them in North
Olmsted, but certainly would love to see them in a location that is much easier for our
residents to be accessible, and to present its best face forward here in the City of North
Olmsted.
And then a couple of events to bring to Council's attention. On Saturday, April 12th,
Juju's Dino Dash will be held at the North Olmsted High School; so that location has
been changed. This is a 5K run/walk and a one mile run/walk event. It also includes a
free kids dash for those eight years old and under. The kids dash starts at 8:45 a.m.,
while the 5K and one -mile run walk starts at 9:00 a.m. As you know, on June 3, 2024,
Julian Miles Wood lost his life in an unprovoked act of violence. Julian's parents have
organized this 5K to honor his memory, celebrate his life and give back in his name. All
proceeds support scholarships for students and fund initiatives that give back to the
youth in the North Olmsted community. Advanced registration is required.
Next, the Egg-stravaganza will take place at North Olmsted Park from 10 a.m. until noon
on Saturday, April 19th. This event manages to find a way to outdo itself every year. This
year, in addition to the egg scramble, there will be a petting zoo, a DJ, free coffee, juice,
donuts and more. The event is free, but registration is required. To register, visit the
North Olmsted Recreation Center prior to April 16th, and I definitely encourage early
registration, as space is limited and certain age groups might fill up faster than others.
And finally, the City is hosting a North Olmsted Night at Progressive Field on August 1,
2025, when our Guardians take on the Minnesota Twins. We have a section reserved at
a special group rate for North Olmsted residents. I encourage you to join me and your
fellow North Olmsted neighbors for a fun night at the ballpark. In order to purchase
tickets, please visit the Recreation Center. Tickets actually went on sale today, and
within the first couple of hours, we've already sold over 50 tickets. So we're excited
about that, and that, Mr. President, concludes my report.
Council President Brossard:
Thank you, Mayor. However, I think you left out one important detail about that night at the
ballpark. Who's throwing out the first pitch?
04-01-25 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 2
