• Mr. President and Council, today I was in Columbus meeting with several of our elected
representatives at the State House. We discussed North Olmsted's priorities for the
upcoming state budget as well as our thoughts on other important legislation before
them, such as property tax reform, economic development, and we even had an
opportunity to meet with Quebec, Canada's Minister of the Economy, so that was an
interesting meeting. I'm happy to report the meetings were productive and I left feeling
optimistic about the conversations that were had. I believe it's important to make time
for these face-to-face discussions. As you know, decisions made at the federal, state,
and county levels directly impact what happens here in North Olmsted, and it's essential
that our City continues to advocate on behalf of our residents.
• You should have all received in your mailboxes the 2024 annual report of our Division of
Building. As the weather warms up, I want to remind Council that our property
maintenance sweeps are now in full swing. You may begin to hear from residents
requesting inspections of nearby properties. Please feel free to forward those concerns
to your Council Clerk who will coordinate with the Building Department to get you the
necessary information. If a matter needs to be elevated, our Directors are more than
willing to assist. We understand that receiving a citation can be frustrating for residents.
However, these efforts are crucial to maintaining neighborhood standards and
protecting our property values. Our Building Department has been instructed to work
constructively with those who are cited, and we do have assistance programs in place
for residents who need support.
• We do have a full slate of events coming up, activities here in North Olmsted for the
summer. The Recreation Center will once again host its popular summer camp, and our
concert season kicks off on June 7th. There are plenty of fun and engaging activities
planned for residents and we'll continue highlighting them throughout the summer.
• And finally, a reminder that Monday is Memorial Day. We will be participating in the
annual VFW Memorial Day event here at the City. I know many of you also attend either
all or portions of that ceremony throughout the morning, so I look forward to seeing
you there.
• Please also note that City Hall will be closed in observance of the holiday, and Mr.
President, that concludes my report.
Council President Pro Tempore Scarl:
Thank you, Mayor. Director of Law Gareau, do you have a report this evening?
Law
Law Director Gareau:
Thank you, Mr. President, no report this evening.
Council President Pro Tempore Scarl:
Thank you.
