CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE NO.2025 - 57 <br />By: Mayor Jones <br />AN ORDINANCE A UTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO APPLYFOR AND <br />ACCEPT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED A <br />VIOLENT CRIME REDUCTION GRANT FROM THE OHIO OFFICE <br />OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES IN THE AMOUNT OF <br />$143,604.40 FOR 2025AND DECLARING ANEMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the North Olmsted Police Department seeks to implement the North <br />Olmsted Violent Crime Reduction Initiative ("NOVCRI") to reduce firearm and violent weapon - <br />related crime in the City and otherwise enhance safety for the 32,000 residents of North Olmsted; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the initiative will be accomplished through bi-monthly saturation patrols <br />in high -crime "hot spots" to disrupt illegal firearm activity; the creation of a Community Impact <br />Unit to apprehend violent offenders, particularly in domestic violence cases; the establishment of a <br />Crime Prevention Officer to engage with the community and educate on crime prevention <br />strategies; and the deployment of license plate reader technology to provide crucial intelligence; and <br />WHEREAS, no matching funds are required; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council to authorize the application for such <br />funding in order to support this important crime reduction initiative. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1: That the Mayor be and she is hereby authorized to apply for a Violent <br />Crime Reduction Grant in the amount of $143,604.40 and, if awarded, she is authorized to accept <br />the grant and to execute all documents necessary to effectuate receipt of the same. <br />SECTION 2: This Council finds and determines that all formal actions of this Council <br />concerning and relating to the adoption of this Ordinance were taken in an open meeting of this <br />Council and that all deliberations of this Council and any committees that resulted in those formal <br />actions were in meetings open to the public in compliance with the law. <br />SECTION 3: That this Ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare, and for the <br />further reason that it is necessary to meet application deadlines imposed by the State of Ohio, and <br />further provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members of Council, it shall take <br />effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by the Mayor. <br />
