3.6 PARKING <br />Parking in this section refers to dedicated off-street parking areas including enclosed structures/ <br />parking structures and outdoor surface lots. It is important for driveways and parking structures <br />to not be too visually or physically dominant to support a pedestrian -oriented environment. <br />OUTDOOR PARKING AREAS <br />(A) Landscaping within parking lots should <br />be maximized and paved areas should <br />be minimized to reduce adverse <br />environmental consequences. <br />PARKING STRUCTURES <br />(A) The base level facade of a parking <br />structure facing a primary street should <br />include an active use with a depth of at <br />least 15 feet. <br />(B) Alternative pervious materials such as (B) <br />brick pavers, stamped concrete, or porous <br />asphalt should be considered for better <br />water filtration. <br />(C) Lighter colored materials should be <br />considered to minimize heat coming from <br />the pavement. <br />(D) Internal landscape islands should <br />be distributed in a regular pattern <br />throughout the parking lot to provide <br />a pedestrian path through the outdoor <br />parking area <br />(E) Pedestrian connections should provide <br />a direct path to the main entrance of <br />the primary building and/or any broader <br />pedestrian system. <br />(F) Pedestrian connections should be <br />separated from auto traffic and <br />adequately landscaped and lighted <br />28 DESIGN GUIDELINES I JANUARY 31, 2025 DRAFT <br />Parking structure facades should be <br />screened using landscaping, public art, <br />or other facade articulation to shield the <br />view of the internal parking circulation <br />and cars. <br />
