Jeff Sturgeon, 3092 West 231. An idea came to my mind being your Caucus Meeting when you
guys were talking about repealing the alarms, something with that, but the idea with alarms. I
recently sold some property in Willoughby, and one of the things that they have in Willoughby,
you sell property, is they have a point -of -sale inspection, I believe they call it. And what that is
is from a safety point of view, they want to be able to come into your home and make sure that
you have working smoke alarms and CO detector needed. And that house or property, you
cannot sell it unless you have that done, and it was $75 per property. From a safety point of
view, I think it was a wonderful thing. Both times they come right out, it's about a five, 10-
minute procedure. Both cases with me, they sent a fireman out. They have part of their agenda
when they do homes and when they do condos. And I think from a safety point of view, if you
look at our history, we've had some deaths in our city because of fire. And I think if anything
that we can do to improve the safety of it, and I think if you look, we probably sell, I'm going to
guess, 200 to 300 homes a year in the city, I'm guessing. I don't know how accurate that is. But
if you can get 200 or 300 homes a year, that we know we have working CO detectors, we know
we have working smoke alarms, that alone is going to make the city safer. I have... recently
homes on my street on 231. A lot of the homes have been selling and they're going rental.
Okay. Well, it sure would be nice to know that the house that might be next to me or down the
street from me has working fire alarms and working CO detectors. So we don't have any kind of
accident or anything like that. And I think if there's something for you to consider, either
Administration or Council or something, I just think from a safety point of view, this would
really help the city, and it came up with a fee of like $75, like what Willoughby does. I would
highly recommend just look, go on their website and look at how they're doing it. And I'm sure
they're not the only city that's doing it. I just wanted to bring that up, just something that's
been in my mind to bring up, and then I heard the alarm thing tonight. And it's like, it's an alarm
in my brain to tell you.
I also would like to say that in 2020, working with Chuck, okay, was amazing. When I worked
with him on the Charter Review, that was a time where we have never been for in the city
because of COVID. We never done meetings online and stuff, and pretty sure that the Character
Review Commission was the first online meeting. And Chuck made sure everything went
smooth. He was in contact with everybody, and I don't know if it could have been done
before... It could have been done without the guy, and whatever he's going to be doing next, I
do wish him the best, too. Thank you.
Councilman Limpert:
Mr. President?
Council President Brossard:
Yeah, seeing no other comments from the audience, we're actually going to go a little bit out of
order because we actually do have a report, and we also have a motion to make. So, my
apologies that we went a little bit out of order. Councilman Limpert?
