to make sure that, I'd like to see is those fields that are run by the association that it's currently
running, North Olmsted Softball Association, that is a nonprofit group, that is not even based in
the City of North Olmsted. Last I knew, it was based in Olmsted Falls, and it was nothing to do
with the city. That just happened to be their name of them. They were getting there for a while,
no rent or very little rent for the field. They did, however, go and put up the one scoreboard
and stuff. Well, now that we have all this new fields and new baseball and stuff, I would love to
see that run by the city. I go to my grandkids' baseball games constantly. I was just there last
night in Avon Lake, and I see their youth, how they do it and stuff, and there's money to be
made in that. Some of those teams are paying over $1,500 a season to play there, and I just
think that, personally, the city could do a better job than that nonprofit club in Olmsted Falls,
North Olmsted Softball Association. I would love to see the city.... I don't know if there's been
any talk about that.
Director Pinchek:
Thank you for the comments. We are actually reviewing all that right now, and I'm quite
familiar with Avon Lake and how they do things over there. That was where I was prior to that.
So with the new fields, there will be new procedures as well as new policies that we'll go
through for groups that are using our fields in the future.
Mr. Jeff Sturgeon:
You expect it to be run by the city proper?
Director Pinchek:
The city is going to run everything, yes.
Mr. Jeff Sturgeon:
Excellent. Thank you. Next thing that I'd like to do is I'd like to thank the Council,
Administration, and the Law Director for letting me be the Chairman for the Charter Review.
That was a little process that we did, we could not have got through that without our Law
Director and the Clerk. I hope that Council looks at that report and takes the Charter's advice on
the thing that is going to be going up on the ballot, hopefully, if you guys approve it. And I don't
know if in the report if it showed any of the other stuff that we discussed. We had discussed
things that we put notes for the next Charter Commission even in there, that things are going to
be, that we didn't want to give you now, but for the next Charter Review in another five years.
So I hope you look at that. The Law Director, that will be at the next meeting on next
Tuesday ... they will be discussing this?
Law Director Gareau:
Mr. Chairman, Mr. President, I think you've announced that there was going to be a special...
Council President Brossard:
Correct, we'll have a Committee of the Whole next Tuesday at 7 o'clock to discuss the
recommendation from the Charter Review Commission.
06 03-25 Council Meeting Minutes .. Fags 1.0
