Mr. Jeff Sturgeon:
All right. All right, thank you. And even though we got through that whole process and
everything, rest assured that if anything else should come up in the remaining of our time, four
and a half more years to go, I can assure you that the Charter Commission will be there for the
city should something else come up. It's been a pleasure and very rewarding doing that for the
city. Thank you.
Mr. Terry Smith:
Terry Smith, 6602 Maplehurst Road. I just had a question. I've heard some comments before
regarding the roads in North Olmsted, specifically Dover and Clague, I think. They said that they
were county roads and that the county had responsibility over them, and so that's part of the
reason there's issues there. But I'm just wondering why, when you go into Westlake, the roads
are smooth. So is it a joint feature, or is it just, it can't be just the county, if that's true, how the
roads smooth out. So thank you.
Council President Brossard:
Mayor.
Mayor Jones:
Mr. President. Unless you would like to?
Council President Brossard:
All yours.
Mayor Jones:
Okay, thank you. Thank you, Mr. Smith. So you are correct in stating that roads like Dover
Center and Clague Road, they're both considered county roads. However, the agreements with
the different municipalities, they differ on when the county comes in and rehabilitates the
roads. So for example, our section of Clague Road, that's a current county project. They fund
these projects a couple years ahead of time, and then so they know that they will be in North
Olmsted, while they were here at the end of 24 through 25. You'll notice that then Clague on
Westlake's end, though, they will be up for rehabilitation a couple of years down the road. As
far as Dover Center goes, Westlake's timetable with the county just happened to come up
literally just, I believe it was just a year and a half ago. Our timetable with the county,
unfortunately for Dover Center, is almost four years away from now. However, Council had
decided during our budget hearings that because our section of Dover Center had disintegrated
so significantly, that the city would take funds and pay for that rehabilitation now. Because we
couldn't wait for the county's timetable. So it does, even though the county owns that whole
stretch of road, each municipality has a different agreement and a different timetable, and
that's why there's no consistency, which probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense. But
unfortunately, because of the way that our county kind of grew up with each municipality
originally creating these agreements with the county during different times, there's not a lot of
continuity.
06-0 -25 COUncil Meeting Minutes ..
