Mayor Jones:
Yes.
Councilwoman Hemann:
So, I don't know if anyone knows, but I did donate the vest for our original dog, Match there
was actually, not in our budget that year, a provision for safety equipment for our dog, and I
really thought that that was incorrect, and that we needed to have a bullet proof vest among
other things, but we didn't have a budget. That dog was donated to us, and you know, this
Administration, the Mayor has helped us, you know, in our helping purchase Tarik, and so
because of that, I wanted to donate this as well, and also because, you know, once you have
one kid in your group, you just keep collecting them. He is a really great dog, Match is, you
know, working a little less, as I understand, and you know, I just, we have a little dog that I
[inaudible] and so I'm happy to do it, and he's terrific, so please take good care of him.
Chief Wagner:
I'd like to share a few thoughts about the donation of the vest. You know, our canine program
first started back in 2000, and I was one of the original canine handlers back then, and I can tell
you that the vest today, as you see it, is much different than it was 20 years ago. They're able
to be worn more. The vest from 20 years ago was very bulky, very hot, and they've come along
with it. Councilwoman Hemann donated the vest for Match back, I think, in 2018, or the
beginning of 2019. Match is now getting a little bit older now, as she said, he's slowing down.
Hopefully, he'll be with us, hopefully, another year, and then we'll be looking to replace Match
down the road. Tarik's been great for us. Austin came to us from the State Highway Patrol,
where he was an active officer, and we continue to do that here in North Olmsted. I believe, if
I'm not mistaken, we had apprehension with him last week, right? So, we've been out there
getting drugs, guns, and bad guys since he came on late last year. So, we couldn't be happier
enough for, one, the donation of the vest, but also the addition of the dog to the city. It's
absolutely the best public relations tool that law enforcement has, and it can help us do the job
that we can't do on our own. So, it's a great tool, on top of a great, I'm sure, family -friendly
guest at home as well. So, thank you very much, Councilwoman Hemann, Mayor, the
Administration, for all your support. We have a great K-9 program, and we'd like to continue
that well into the future. So, thank you very much.
Mayor Jones:
