John Martindale
26031 Butternut Ridge
North Olmsted, OH, 44070
jemartindale0l Lgmail.com
21 October 2025
Council President Louis Brossard
North Olmsted City Hall
Dear Council President Brossard,
As the owner of the architecturally significant Ames house, featured in North Olmsted's
historical publications, I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed rezoning of
North Olmsted's Butternut Historic District. This rezoning would irreparably and irreversibly
damage the area and degrade the quality of life for residents.
North Olmsted fought hard for the recognition of the district and its landmarks. The rezoning,
patently intended to allow an unwelcome development of 45 "attached cluster homes," will have
multiple ill effects. If the rezoning is permitted, there is no end to the alterations that would be
proposed and likely permitted in the Historic District, ruining its value and character.
The development which motivates this rezoning will result in. significantly increased traffic along
an already busy road, and I have heard the suggestion that it will lead to making Butternut Ridge
a four -lane road, which in turn will further exacerbate traffic and reduce the quiet enjoyment of
residents while increasing risks to pedestrians, pets, and wildlife. Most egregiously, this would
result in the loss of a minimum of a fifteen -foot -wide swath from the front yard of every home
on both sides, private property which we, the residents and tax payers, do not intend to give up.
This rezoning must not be permitted.
Please shut down this rezoning proposal and work toward preserving the integrity of North
Olmsted's Butternut Historic District.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
