CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO.2026 - 44 <br />By: Mayor Jones <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED TO <br />PARTICIPATE AS A DESIGNATED STORE IT SAFE (SIS) PROGRAM <br />COMMUNITY IN OHIO, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the Store It Safe program was started in 2015 by the Ohio Academy of <br />Pediatrics (AAP) in response to unintentional firearm injury to children. SIS is a unique <br />partnership of school professionals, healthcare providers, firearm safety experts, and other <br />community organizations established to keep children safe; and <br />WHEREAS, the SIS program efforts in North Olmsted will be led by the designated Crime <br />Prevention Officer within the Police Department and overseen by the Director of Public Safety; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the youth population of North Olmsted aged 0-18 is approximately 7,000 <br />individuals and this program will focus on youth beginning at six years old. <br />WHEREAS, the North Olmsted Police Department will partner with the Cuyahoga County <br />Board of Health to implement the program education using approved Ohio AAP materials. The <br />NOPD will be able to use the SIS logo on the website and other materials. There is no cost <br />involved. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION l: That the Mayor of the City of North Olmsted be and she is hereby authorized <br />to execute and submit all documents necessary for the City of North Olmsted to fully participate <br />in the Store it Safe program sponsored by the Ohio Academy of Pediatrics. <br />SECTION 2: That upon successful enrollment, the City of North Olmsted shall be a <br />designated Store it Safe Program Community in the State of Ohio. <br />SECTION 3: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare, and further for <br />the reason that it is necessary that this Resolution go into effect immediately to allow for timely <br />implementation of the Store it Safe program to enhance safety for the City's youngest and most <br />vulnerable population, and further provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all <br />members of Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval <br />by the Mayor. <br />
