CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED ORDINANCE NO.2026 - 68 By: Mayor Jones AN ORDINANCE A UTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO APPLYFOR AND ACCEPT FUNDING FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2026-2027 DRUG USE PREVENTION GRANT FOR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS (SRO) FROM THE STATE OF OHIO ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE DRUG GRANT PROGRAM, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY, A_S AMENDED. WHEREAS, the School Resource Officer Program has existed since 1996 and has been successful in helping youth in our community fight the harmful effects of substance use and abuse; and WHEREAS, the Ohio Attorney General's Office has made available to the City of North Olmsted funding through its Drug Grant Program the amount of $40,707.28 $35,300.61 to support one (1) full-time School Resource Office ("SRO") and two (2) part-time SROs, one each at the high school, middle school, and grade school(s); and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council to authorize the Mayor to apply for such grant funding in order to provide funding for the SRO Program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO, THAT. SECTION 1: That the Mayor be and she is hereby authorized to apply for a Drug Use Prevention Grant with the Ohio Attorney General's Office in the amount of $49;707.28 $35,300.61 and, if awarded, she is authorized to accept the grant and to execute all documents necessary to effectuate receipt of the same. SECTION 2: This Council finds and determines that all formal actions of this Council concerning and relating to the adoption of this Ordinance were taken in an open meeting of this Council and that all deliberations of this Council and any committees that resulted in those formal actions were in meetings open to the public in compliance with the law. SECTION 3: That this Ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency measure immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare, and for the further reason that grant applications are time sensitive and require immediate action, and further provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members of Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by the Mayor.
