CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED RESOLUTION NO. 2007 - 18 By: Council Members Dailey Jones, Barker and Miller, the entire City Council and Mayor O'Grady A RESOLUTIONENCOURAGING THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO SELECT NORTHEAST OHIO AS THE SITE FOR TKE 2011 SUMMER WORLD GAMES, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, Northeast Ohio is also home of a number of professional sports teams, including the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers, that have in the past supported and continue to support the Special Olympics; and WHEREAS, Northeast Ohio is the home of a number of former great Olympic athletes, includir,-? Jesse Owens and Harrison Dillard; and WHEREAS, Northeast Ohio is home to several major universities and colleges, including the Cuyahoga County Community College, Cleveland State University, Baldwin-Wallace College, Case Western Reserve University, John Carroll University, Kent State University, the University of Akron, and others; and WHEREAS, Northeast Ohio has numerous private and public facilities that have in the past supported, and continue to support, the Special Olympics; and WHEREAS, Northeast Ohio is home to several premier media outlets, including ABC, CBS, PBS and NBC television affiliates, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Sun Newspapers and many other print mediL: outlets, as well as numerous FM and AM radio stations, among others; NOW, ?'HEREFDRE, BE I7' RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: SECTION 1: That this Council, on behalf of the residents of the City of North Olmsted, deeply encourages the Site Selection Committee for the 2011 Special Olympics Summer World Games to select Northeast Ohio as the site for the 2011 Specia141ympics Summer Wor1d Games. SECTION 2: That this Council and Administration will cooperate to the best of their abilities to accommodate the Special Olympics arganization, the athletes, their coaches and families, should Northeast Ohio be selected as the site for the 2011 Summer World Games. SECTION 3: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare, and further for the reason that it iz necessary that this Resolution go into effect immediately in order for documents from all municipalities and county governments be assembled and sent to the Special Olympics Board in March, 2007; and further provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members of Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by the Mayor.
