<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2007 - 18 <br />By: Council Members Dailey Jones, Barker and Miller, the entire City Council and Mayor O'Grady <br />A RESOLUTIONENCOURAGING THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS BOARD OF TRUSTEES <br />TO SELECT NORTHEAST OHIO AS THE SITE FOR TKE 2011 SUMMER WORLD <br />GAMES, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, Northeast Ohio is also home of a number of professional sports teams, including the <br />Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers, that have in the past supported and <br />continue to support the Special Olympics; and <br />WHEREAS, Northeast Ohio is the home of a number of former great Olympic athletes, includir,-? <br />Jesse Owens and Harrison Dillard; and <br />WHEREAS, Northeast Ohio is home to several major universities and colleges, including the <br />Cuyahoga County Community College, Cleveland State University, Baldwin-Wallace College, Case Western <br />Reserve University, John Carroll University, Kent State University, the University of Akron, and others; and <br />WHEREAS, Northeast Ohio has numerous private and public facilities that have in the past <br />supported, and continue to support, the Special Olympics; and <br />WHEREAS, Northeast Ohio is home to several premier media outlets, including ABC, CBS, PBS <br />and NBC television affiliates, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Sun Newspapers and many other print mediL: <br />outlets, as well as numerous FM and AM radio stations, among others; <br />NOW, ?'HEREFDRE, BE I7' RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council, on behalf of the residents of the City of North Olmsted, deeply <br />encourages the Site Selection Committee for the 2011 Special Olympics Summer World Games to select <br />Northeast Ohio as the site for the 2011 Specia141ympics Summer Wor1d Games. <br />SECTION 2: That this Council and Administration will cooperate to the best of their abilities to <br />accommodate the Special Olympics arganization, the athletes, their coaches and families, should Northeast <br />Ohio be selected as the site for the 2011 Summer World Games. <br />SECTION 3: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure immediately <br />necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare, and further for the reason that it iz <br />necessary that this Resolution go into effect immediately in order for documents from all municipalities and <br />county governments be assembled and sent to the Special Olympics Board in March, 2007; and further <br />provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members of Council, it shall take effect and be in <br />force immediately upon its passage and approval by the Mayor. <br />
