?- CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED RESOLUTION NO. 2007 - 56 By: Mayor O'Grady and the entire City Council A RESOL UTION OPPOSING THE Q UARTERL Y CUSTOMER SER VICE CHARGE IMPOSED BY THE CITY OF CLEVELAND ON WATER BILLS WHEREAS, the residents of the City of North Olmsted are serviced by the Cit} of Cleveland Water Department; and WHEREAS, effective January 1, 2007, the City of Cleveland has instituted a new rate structure (actual consumption charge plus quarterly customer service charge) that it believes will more accurately reflect the actual cost of services and help recover the drop in consumption and subsequent revenue shortfall over the past decade; and WHEREAS, as part of the new rate structure, the City of Cleveland is charging a$7.00 quarterly customer service charge through 2010 to all consumers of Cleveland water in order to cover costs for meter reading, bill generation, collections processing, and core customer service functions; and WHEREAS, the City of North Olmsted has many residents on fixed incomes who will be affected by the increase in rates; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: SECTION 1: That this Council hereby opposes the increase in water rates by the City of Cleveland and urges the City of Cleveland to eliminate the $7.00 quarterly customer service charge for North Olmsted residents. SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the Mayor of the City of Cleveland and the Cleveland Water Commissioner. SECTION 4: That this Resolution shall take effect immediately provided it receives the unanimous vote of all members elected to Council; otherwise, it shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
