CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
RESOLUTION NO. 99-58
By: Mayor Norman Musial and the Entire Council
A RESOLUTION URGING THE OHIO LEGISLATURE TO
REJECT HOUSE BILLS 165 AND 23, WHICH BILLS, IF
ADOPTED, WOULD GREATLY RELAX THE PRESENT
PROHIBITION AGAINST CITIZENS CARRYING CONCEALED
WEAPONS ON THEIR PERSONS.
WHEREAS, in Resolution No. 95-142, passed on November 8, 1995, this Council
expressed its opposition to House Bill 68, which would have, if adopted, relalced the present
prohibition against citizens carrying concealed weapons; and
WHEREAS, this Council believed then, and continues to believe now, that members of
the general citizenry carrying concealed weapons on their person pose a significant threat to the
safety of the police forces of the State of Ohio, County of Cuyahoga and City of North Olmsted
as well as to the general public; and
WHEREAS, the present pending House Bills 165 and 23, like the Legislature's 1995
House Bill 68, will relax the prohibition against carrying concealed weapons in Ohio and will
greatly increase the number of handguns on the streets, in our places of recreation, in our
workplaces and in our schools; and
WHEREAS, should it be the desire of the General Assembly to move forward with these
new bills be adopted despite the protests of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, this Council, and other
local government bodies throughout the State of Ohio, this Council would prefer that the bill be
amended to mandate that proper firearms training, the type of which is presently available through
the National Rifle Association in every area of Ohio, be required of any person who would be
permitted, as a result of the passage of these bills, to carry a concealed weapon in public;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH
OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO:
SECTION l: That the City of North Olmsted urges rejection of House Bills 165 and 23,
and reiterates its objection to any changes in the present State criminal code which would relax
the prohibitions against citizenry carrying concealed weapons in the State of Ohio.
. ... .. ....... ... .. . .... x.ms...ei,?.a-t. -rv.r ?e--:.n.,. ...,... . ,...... d, ni?3aV^li o.,.Arrrv... ?„i..a+W?tM"C'?y x. .ry,,;.a. ..,.. . . ....,
