<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 99 - 52 <br />BY: MAYOR NORMAN T. MUSIAL AND ALL MEMBERS OF COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 24, 1999 ARBOR DAY 1N THE CITY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED AND CELEBRATING THE AWARD OF TREE CITY USA <br />WHEREAS, in 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a <br />special day be set aside for the planting of trees; and <br />WHEREAS, this holiday, called ARBOR DAY, was first observed with the planting of more than <br />a million trees in Nebreska, and Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, trees reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and <br />cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen and provide habitat for <br />wildlife; and <br />WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, wood for our homes, fuel for our fires <br />and countless other wood products; and <br />WHEREAS, trees in our city increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business <br />areas, and beautify our community; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of North Olmsted has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the National <br />Arbor Day Foundation fourteen years in a row; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCII., OF THE CITY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION NO. 1: That APRIL 24, 1999 is hereby proclaimed as ARBOR DAY in the <br />City of North Olmsted. All citizens are urged to support efforts to protect our trees and <br />woodlands and celebrate the receipt of Tree City USA by the City of North Olmsted. Further, we <br />urge all citizens to plant trees to gladden the heart and promote the well-being of this and future <br />generations. <br />SECTION NO. 2: That the Clerk of Council be, and she is hereby directed to transmit a <br />copy of this Resolution to Dave Wendell, the FORESTER of the City of North Olmsted. <br />PASSED: a ? q q , <br />Attest: <br />ar ara L.
