? .? CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED RESOLUTION NO. 2003 - 74 BY: Mayor Norman T. Musial and the Entire Council A RESOLUTION CELEBRATING ARBOR DAYAND THE 2003 AWARD OF "TREE CITY IISA" TO THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED. WHEREAS, in 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Boaxd of Agriculture that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees; and WHEREAS, this holiday, called ARBOR DAY, was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska, and Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and WHEREAS, trees reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen and provide habitat for wildlife; and WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, wood for our homes, fuel for our fires and countless other wood products; and WHEREAS, trees in our City increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, and beautify our community; and WHEREAS, the City of North Olmsted has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for the eighteenth (10) year in a row and desires to continue its tree-planting practices. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, AND STATE OF OHIO: SECTION 1: That this Council endorses and supports the Mayor's proclamation declaring April 25, 2003 be ARBOR DAY in North Olmsted. All citizens are urged to support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands. Further, we urge a11 citizens to plant trees to gladden the heart and promote the well-being of this and future generations. SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council be, and she is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Dave Wendell, the Forester of the City of North Olmsted.
