<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2003 - 72 <br />By: The Entire City Council and the Mayor <br />A RESOLUTION URGING THE OHIO SENATE AND OHIO HOUSE OF <br />REPRESENTATIVES TO OVERRIDE ANY VETO BY GOVERNOR TAFT <br />OF THE ELIMINATION OF E-CHECK EMISSIONS INSPECTIONS. <br />WHEREAS, both the Ohio Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives have <br />indicated their intent to eliminate the E-check emissions inspections for cars in Ohio; and <br />WHEREAS, Cuyahoga County is one of the largest contributors to the E-check <br />emissions inspections taxes; and <br />WHEREAS, Chris Jones, Director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, <br />testified that exempting cars from the E-check emissions inspections does not represent <br />actual pollution generated by the cars, but relates to the number of credits the State <br />receives for testing them; and <br />WHEREAS, Director Chris Jones stated that the State could live with the <br />elimination of the E-check emissions inspections from an environmental standpoint but <br />that he is approaching the matter as a contractual issue which would leave the State liable <br />for losses on the basis of its contract with Envirotest; and <br />WHEREAS, Governor Bob Taft has indicated that he would veto any legislation <br />that would exempt cars up to five (5) years old from E-check emissions inspections; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and entire Council of the City of North Olmsted believe <br />that the E-check emissions inspections elimination for cars up to five (5) years old would <br />not effect the environment of Ohio; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and entire Council of the City of North Olmsted desire to <br />state their position relative to the E-check emissions inspections and urge the Ohio Senate <br />and Ohio House of Representatives to ovemde any veto by the Governor regarding E- <br />check emissions inspections. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />
