<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 73 ~~~ <br />BY; ~~ <br />A RESOLUTION URGING THE LEGISLATURE OF THE <br />STATE OF OHIO AND THE GOVERNOR OF "P~iE STATE <br />OF OHIO 'TD IMMEDIATELY ESTABLISH RULES AND <br />REGULATIONS TO REGULATE ABORTION PRACTTCES <br />IN THE STATE OF OHIO, AND DECLARING AN <br />EMERGfltT CY. <br />WHEREAS, the Supreme Court of the United States has declared that <br />States have legitimate interest in seeing to it that abortions are performed <br />under circumstances that insure maximum safety for the patient ;and <br />WHEREAS, to date no adequate rules and regulations have been pro- <br />mulgated by the State of Ohio dealing with abortions or abortion clinics ; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, there is growing concern throughout the State of Ohio and <br />particularly in the City of North Olmsted regarding the performance of abortions <br />and the establishment of abortion clinics, and the health care which should be <br />provided ;and <br />WHEREAS, performance of unregulated abortions presents serious medical <br />and health hazards to all citizens of the State of Ohio ,which citizens are <br />entitled to the highest standards of health care, and <br />WHEREA,B, abortion #ia~aspptentially dangerous surgical procedure and for <br />its performance rules and regulations should be established by the State of Ohio <br />to assure the highest standards for the protection of the pregnant woman at the <br />earliest possible time ;and <br />WHEREAS, this Resolution constitutes an emergency measure providing for <br />the immediate preservation of public health, safety and welfare. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of North <br />Olmsted, State of Ohio : <br />Section 1. That the Council of the City of North Olmsted, for and on <br />behalf of the citizens of the City of North Olmsted strongly urges the Governor <br />of the State of Ohio and the Representatives to the Ohio State Legislature to <br />enact appropriate legislation and/or to expedite pending legislation establishing <br />rules and regulations for the performance of abortions in the State of Ohio at the <br />earliest possible time and without any delay whatsoever. <br />Section 2. That the Cldck of Council be and she is hereby authorized and <br />directed to certify a copy of this Resolution and forwardtto: The Honorable John <br />J. Gilligan, Governor of the State of Ohio ; Mr. Harry jump ,Clerk of the Ohio <br />Senate ; T. R. Boring, Clerk of the Ohio House of Representatives ;State Senator <br />Paul Matia and State Representatives George Mastics and Richard G. Celeste. <br /> <br />
