CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE NO. 68-,.5oZ <br />B Y <br />AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING MINIMUM SAFETY REQUIRE- <br />MENTS OF ELEVATORS InTSTALLED IN BUILDINGS WITHIN THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY <br />WHEREAS, the Chief of the Fire Department of the City of North <br />Olmsted has advised the Safety, Health and Welfare Committee of C ouncil of <br />the need for safety features in elevators, and <br />WHEREAS, the Safety, Health and Welfare Committee has investi- <br />gated the need as oultined by the Fire Chief and agrees with the recommendations <br />a s made, and <br />WHEREAS, the aforesaid committee now advises the Council of <br />these saf ety precautions and the immediate need for the inclusion of same in the <br />Fire Prevention Code of the City of North Olmsted. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of <br />North Olmsted, State of Ohio: <br />Section 1: That there is hereby established Section 1501,10 of <br />Chapter 1501, Part Fifteen of the Codified Ordinances of the City of North Olmsted, <br />reading as follows: <br />Section 1501.10 - Elevators <br />A: All elevators that are equipped with photo-electric tube devices <br />for the controlling of closing automatic , power operated elevator <br />doors shall have an emergency switch,located in the elevator car, <br />which, when activated, will render the door closing photo-electic <br />tube device ineffective. <br />The aforesaid Emerqencv Switch shall be of the constant <br />pressure type and shall require not less than ten ( 10 ) pounds <br />nor more than fifteen ( 15 ) pounds pressure to actuate . Said <br />switch shall be clearly lab6led" Emerqency Switch To Close <br />Doors ";,shall be located in or adjacent to the operating panel <br />of the elevator car; and shall not be less than six ( 6) feet nor <br />more than six feet six inches ( 6' 6" ) from the floor of the elevator <br />car. <br />B: Each and every elevator car shall have an emergency light, <br />clearly labeled as such, to provide adequate light within the <br />elevator car when the primary power fails. <br />C: Each and every elevator car shall be equipped with an emergency <br />bell actuated by an emergency switch in the elevator car, clearly <br />labeled as " Emergency Bell " and located near or in the control <br />panel, which bell shall be supplied with an independent source of <br />emergency power so the bell rnay be actuated when the primarir <br />power fails . <br />D: One elevator in each bu.ilding shall be of a minumum size of <br />clear floor space of seven feet ( 7' ) by five ( 5') feet.
