._ * <br /> <br />. <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE N0. 85-96 <br />BY: <br />AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE SUBMISSION TO THE <br />ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED OF A PROPOSED <br />CHARTER AMENDMENT RELATING TO THE NUMBER OF SIGNATURES <br />REQUIRED ON NOMINATING PETITIONS FOR MUNICIPAL OFFICE <br />WITHIN THE CITY AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY, <br />WHEREAS, the Charter Review Commission of the City of North Olmsted, <br />appointed pursuant to Article XIV of the Charter of the City of North <br />Olmsted, has filed its report of recommended amendments to the Charter <br />with this Council. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO, TWO-THIRDS OF ALL MEMBERS <br />CONCURRING: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council hereby authorizes and directs the <br />submission to the electors of the City of North Olmsted at the General <br />Election to be held at the usual places of voting in said City on Tuesday, <br />November 5, 1985, the following separate proposal to amend the Charter of <br />the City of North Olmsted: <br />Proposal: That Sections 5 and 6 of Article IX be amended to require <br />that those seeking nomination as independent candidates be required to <br />obtain the following valid signatures: at large office 400, from the ward <br />100, and further those seeking a Declaration of Candidacy for a party <br />nomination be required to obtain the following valid signatures: at large <br />office 100, from the ward 25, such amended Sections 5 and 6 of Article IX <br />to read as follows: <br />ARTICLE IX <br />NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS <br />SEC. 5 DECLARATIONS OF CANDIDACY. <br />Each person desiring to become a candidate for a party nomination to <br />be voted for at a primary election, shall, not later than 4:00 P.M. of the <br />60th day before the day of such primary election, file with the Board of <br />Elections of Cuyahoga County, Ohio, a declaration of candidacy and <br />petition, which petition shall be signed by not less than one hundred (100) <br />qualified electors of the City of North Olmsted, who are members of the <br />same political party of which the candidate is a member if said candidacy <br />is an at large position and not less than twenty five (25) qualified <br />electors of the City of North Olmsted, who are members of the same <br />political party as the political party of which the candidate is a member <br />if the office sought is from one of the several wards. <br />SEC. 6 NOMINATING PROCEDURE. <br />Nominations of independent candidates for Ward Councilrnan shall be <br />made by petitions signed by not less than twenty five (25) qualified <br />electors of the City residing in the ward of which the nominee is a <br />resident.
