CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 91-191 <br />Mr. Leonard on behalf of <br />BY: The Mayor and Entire Cit Council <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CRIME BILL. <br />WHEREAS, Hundreds of thousands of Americans lose their <br />lives each year as a result of violent crime; and <br />WHEREAS, A crime bill targeted at reducing the victims <br />of gun violence in America's cities is awaiting floor action <br />in the House and the Senate; and <br />WHEREAS, This bill establishes a waiting period for <br />handgun purchases, authorizes new aid for local police <br />departments and prosecutors for anti-drug law enforcement <br />efforts, expands aid to crime victims and launches a new <br />rural anti-crime program; and <br />WHEREAS, This crime bill contains new resources to <br />expand community policing and to attract young people into <br />law enforcement careers via a new "Police Corps" program; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, President George Bush is threatening to veto <br />this bill if is approved by the House and the Senate. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That it is the desire of this Council to <br />support The Crime Bill designed to help alleviate the <br />violence and suffering of victims of gun violence in <br />America's cities. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution shall take effect and <br />be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by <br />law. <br />SECTION 3: That the Clerk of Council is hereby <br />instructed to forward a copy of this resolution to Senators <br />Howard M. Metzenbaum and John H. Glenn, Congresswoman Mary <br />Rose Oakar and Congressmen Edward F. Feighan and Louis <br />Stokes, Senator Gary Suhadolnik and State Rep. Edward <br />Kasputis. <br />
