<br /> <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 91-65 <br />BY: COUNCILMAN TALLON <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE CONTINUATION AND/OR <br />EXPANSION OF PROGRAMS AIMED AT ASSISTING SENIOR <br />CITIZENS. <br />WHEREAS, several senior citizen programs are being <br />threatened with state budget cuts; and <br />WHEREAS, these cuts will affect people 65 years of age <br />and older, who currently number 29 million nationwide and <br />are expected to grow to 34.9 million in the Year 2000; and <br />WHEREAS, the budget cuts run deep into programs <br />utilizing 1084 funds needed to keep our senior centers open <br />and operating; and <br />WHEREAS, senior citizens living slightly above poverty <br />level cannot benefit from many of the assistance programs, <br />placing the responsibility on the shoulders of community <br />senior centers which are not equipped financially to handle <br />the cost; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of federal, state <br />and local governments to provide services to a population <br />which has given so much to this society. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION l: That the City of North Olmsted, on behalf <br />of its senior citizenry, supports full funding and expansion <br />of Eldercare Options, Passport, 1084 funds, the Alzheimer's <br />Line item, and full funding of social services targeted at a <br />large portion of our population. <br />SECTION 2: That the Clerk <br />instructed to forward a copy of <br />George Voi.~ovich. <br />i ) <br />PASSED: ~ ',~~ ,~ '~.: ~~ ~~l ~~ <br />AT,T~S <br />(Barbara Seman, C erk of Council <br />Ed Boyl yor <br />of Council is hereby <br />this resolution to Governor <br />Jam D.
