CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 74 - ~,~/~ <br />BY• <br />A RESOLUTION ASSURING THE FEDERAL INSURANCE <br />ADMINISTRATOR AND OTHER GOVERNMENTAL AUTHORITIES <br />OF THE INTENT OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO, <br />TO TAKE NECESSARY STEPS TO COMPLY WITH THE <br />NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE ACT OF 1968 AS AMENDED. <br />WHEREAS, a small portion of the City of North Olmsted is subject <br />to periodic flooding from the Rocky River causing serious damages to <br />properties within this area, and <br />WHEREAS, relief is available in the form of flood insurance as <br />authorized by the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 as amended, and <br />WHEREAS, it is the intent of this Council to comply with land use <br />and management criteria regulations as required in said act, and <br />WHEREAS, it is also the intent of this Council to recognize and <br />duly evaluate flood hazards in all official actions relating to land <br />use in the flood plain area having special flood hazards, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of North Olmsted has the authority to zone and <br />adopt subdivision regulations under Article V, Section 14 of the <br />Charter of the City of North Olmsted; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION l: That this Council will take the following actions <br />to meet the standards set by the Federal Insurance Administration: <br />A. Enact and maintain in force for those areas having special <br />flood hazards adequate land use and control measures with <br />effective enforcement provision consistent with the criteria <br />set forth in Section 1910.3 (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e) of <br />the National Flood Insurance Regulations. <br />B. Assist the Federal Insurance Administrator, at his request, <br />in delineating the limits of the flood plain having special <br />flood hazard on available local maps of sufficient scale to <br />identify the location of the building sites. <br />C. After flood insurance is made available, furnishing representa- <br />tives of the National Flood Insurers Association (also <br />appropriate Federal or State agencies, upon request) informa- <br />tion concerning new or substantially improved structures <br />within the area of special flood hazard. This information <br />will include floor elevations. <br />D. Cooperate with Federal, State and local agencies which <br />undertake to study, survey, map and identify flood-prone <br />areas as well as cooperating with neighboring jurisdictions <br />with respect to adjoining flood plains in order to prevent <br />aggravation of the flooding problem. <br /> <br />
