JUNE 17, 1958 <br />MINtTTES OF A MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO - 8112 P. M. <br />Present were Ralph A. Hazelton, President of Council; James Hinkel, <br />Eddie Hiason, Wm. H. Kramer, Mary Alice Lynch, Francis O'Neill, James <br />Wilsoa, L1®yd E. Barnes, Service Director; and Carl F.. Haettich, <br />Safety Director. <br />Also present were Alex Ranareff, Engineer; E. M. Christman, Clerk; and <br />Alice Dobbins, Treasurer. <br />Paul J. Gareau, Mayor; C. J. Oviatt, Solicitor; and Bruce MacDonald <br />were absent. <br />In the absence of Mayor Gareau, Mr. Hazelton took the chair and Mr. <br />Wilsoa presided at the meeting. <br />The minutes of June 3rd were approved as read. <br />The Service Director reported that the State Engineers have completed <br />the surveys for Lorain Road Paving, and the state is rushing the plans <br />through, waiting for the Bureau of Roads to go ahead. Within the neat <br />three weeks they should be taking bids on Lorain Road,. <br />The Service Director also reported that Northern Ohio Paving Company <br />will be completing Decker Road this week and will then start on the <br />street resurfacing program. <br />The Safety Director reported that inasmuch as we have only one man for <br />a jailer, with the permission of Council, he would like to appoint <br />Eddie Glenn, to fill in at anytime the Chief of Police sees fit to do <br />so. <br />The Engineer reported he had met with Mr. Lloyd and discussed the <br />projects under way and the way they are to be handled. Decker Road <br />paving, Decker Road Storm Sewer, Fitch Road sidewalks, Surface Treating <br />of Streets, Gessner Road No. 1, Gessner Road No. 2, and Lucille Drive <br />sidewalks to be completed by John R. Lloyd. <br />A communication was read from Mrs. Arther Danford in appreciation of <br />Birthday Congratulations on her 90th birthday. <br />A communication was read from Allen Repko in appreciation of the excellent, <br />well organized program for All Scouts Day. <br />Mrs. Lynch reported the Cleveland Automobile Club and the Illuminating <br />Company recommended more than one light at the Brookpark-Lorain inter- <br />section, and will send up a crew to further study the matter. <br />Mr. Hinkel reported the Safety Committee met June 5th, with Messrs. <br />DeWerth, Bement, and Limpert, and the following recommendations were <br />made: <br />1. The 8ervics Director check all streets for through truck signs <br />and that signs be posted on all streets. <br />2. The Safety Director give consideration to restricting trucks to <br />one lane from Fairview Park line to North Olmsted City limits, <br />both sides. <br />3. Tests be given to those eligible in the Fire Department for <br />an Assistant Chief and Lieutenant, and that the Finance <br />Committee keep in mind increases for the Fire Department by <br />1959, and the Solicitor prepare legislation setting up seniority. <br />It was also agreed that uniforms be purchased at one location, and <br />the Safety Director prepare the specifications. <br />Mr. Hinkel also reported four suburbs were cited for Safety by the <br />American Automobile Association in its 1957 pedestrian contest and <br />
