<br />1 <br />MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />DECEMBER 20, 1988 <br />Present: President Pro Tem Ronald Tallon, Councilwoman Bahas, Council- <br />men Boehmer, Bohlmann, McKay, O'Grady, Wilamosky. <br />Also present: Law Director Michael Gareau, Finance Director Edward Boyle, <br />Clerk of Council Florence Campbell. <br />Absent: President Saringer. <br />Meeting was called to order by President Pro Tem Tallon at 8:05 P.M., in <br />Council Chambers, 5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Members of Council in reciting <br />the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br />Minutes of the regular Council Meeting of December 6, 1988, were approved. <br />Minutes of the special Council Meeting of December 8, 1988, were approved. <br />Law Director Gareau reported: 1) City of North Olmsted is being sued, Dingus <br />versus the City of North Olmsted, for $300,000. This is a discrimination case <br />being brought by two residents who claim they are retirees of southern ex- <br />traction and are being discriminated against because of that. <br />2) Another law suit, O'Leary versus the City of North Olmsted, is a suit for <br />unspecified damages as a result of an injury to a young girl who was riding <br />her bicycle on Maple Ridge Road, struck an obstruction in the sidewalk and <br />broke a bone in her hand. <br />3) Has also received notice of a claim, Dorsey versus the City of North Olmsted; <br />it is not a law suit yet but it has to do with a boy who cut his face while <br />playing football; he fell in the snow, in the grassy area between the sidewalk <br />and the street, and had severe lacerations of the face due to a stake that pro- <br />truded from the ground. <br />4) Attended a meeting on Thursday with the EPA and seventeen other municipalities <br />with respect to the landf ill claim. <br />5) This past week, attended the signing ceremony of the contract approved by <br />council with respect to RTA; this will be implemented on January 1, 1989. <br />6) Is presently preparing an appeal in the Renaissance Case; will be taking this <br />case to the Supreme Court of the State of Ohio, <br />Before moving into Committee Reports, President Pro Tem Tallon announced that <br />suspension of the rule requiring three readings would be requested for Ordinance <br />Nos. 88-134, 88-137, 88-138, 88-139 and 88-148, all of which deal with appropria- <br />tions as well as the temporary budget for 1989. <br /> <br />Mr. Wilamosky, Chairman Finance Committee reported: 1) Finance Committee mkt on <br />December 13th and December 19th; Ordinance No. 88-134 was discussed at both <br />meetings; committee has no objection to this appropriation ordinance, as amended. <br />2) Committee also discussed Ordinance No. 88-137, which is a transfer of appropri- <br />ations - $50,000 increase in the Casualty I;oss Reserve Fund - to cover future <br />losses.
