<br />.,,~ MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />FEBRUARY 20, 1996 <br />Present: Council President Boehmer, Council Members Limpert, McKay, Musial, <br />Nashar, O'Grady, Saringer <br />Also Present: Mayor Boyle (arrived at 10 p.m.), Law Director Gareau, Finance Director <br />Burns, Clerk of Council Seman <br />Absent: Council Member Lind <br />Council President Boehmer called the meeting to order at 8:01 p.m. in Council Chambers, <br />5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance <br />to the Flag. <br />The minutes of the Council meeting of February 6, 1996 were approved as written. <br />Mr. Boehmer announced that Ordinance 96-31 would be passed under suspension of the <br />rule, Ordinance 96-42 would be added to the agenda and Ordinance 96-39 would be <br />removed from the agenda. <br />SPECIAL REPORTS <br />Mr. Boehmer introduced Officer Glenn Adamson who made a presentation on the <br />D.A.RE. program. <br />Officer Adamson explained that D.A.R.E. stood for drug abuse resistance education, <br />which is a 17 week program in the fifth grade curriculum, Officer A travels to the various <br />city elementary schools to teach the program and to interact with the children on the <br />playground and in the cafeteria so they can know him as a friend and someone who cares <br />about them. As part of the presentation, Officer Adamson introduced a fifth grade teacher <br />and several children who spoke about their experiences with the D.A.RE. program, The <br />first presenters were two St. Richard School students who read their essays on the <br />D.A.R.E. program: <br />John Heina said that the D.A.R.E. program protects children from drugs, violence and <br />gang membership. D.A.R.E. provides kids with the information they need to make smart <br />choices about using drugs, alcohol. and causing violence. John said he felt that the <br />D.A.RE. program had changed his life. <br />,_,.,~. <br />
