? <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 98-22 <br />BY: MAYOR MUSIAL <br />A RESOL UTIONDECLARING APRIL 9, 1998 <br />"NATIONAL FORMER PRISONER OF WAR DAY". <br />WHEREAS, persons in the Armed Services of the United States were held prisoners of <br />war by an enemy of the United States because of such service; and <br />WHEREAS, United States citizens were imprisoned hecause of their citizenship and <br />United States citizens were taken prisoner by an enemy of the United States while honorably <br />serving an ally of the United States; and <br />WHEREAS, there have been 800,000 Americans who have known the horrors of being <br />prisoners of war--from the Revolution to the Persian Gulf; and <br />WHEREAS, former prisoners of war should be recognized and commended for their <br />bravery, sacrifice for, and service to the United States of America; and <br />WHEREAS, Apri19, 1998, has been declared as "National Former Prisoner of War Day" <br />by Presidential Proclamation to honor these individuals. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1 That this Administration and City Council recognizes the sacrifices that <br />800,000 prisoners of war made to the United States of America, ensuring freedom for all <br />Americans and therefore, does adopt and declare April9th, 1998, as "National Former Prisoner of <br />War Day". <br />Section 2 That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the <br />earliest period allowed by law. <br />
