<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RES4LUTION NO. 98-21 <br />BY: MAYOR MUSIAL AND THE ENTIRE CITY C4UNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION COABsIENDING THE CUYAHOGA COUNTYPUBLIC <br />LIBRARY ONITS 75THAIVNIVERSARYIN 1998. <br />WHEREAS, the Cuyahoga County Public Library will celebrate its 75th Anniversary in <br />1998; and <br />WHEREAS, in 1921, the State Legislature of Ohio passed a law which enabled the <br />establishment of a county district library for any area not served by a free public library. The <br />Cuyahoga County Public Library was the first county library in Ohio to be organized under the <br />new law; and <br />WHEREAS, the Cuyahoga Counry Public Library openerl its doors to the public in 1923. <br />According to the first County Library Repart covering the period from April 1924 through <br />December 1925, eight branches and 49 stations and classroom libraries were opened; and <br />WHEREAS, the Cuyahoga County Public Library today has grown to become one of the <br />ten busiest library systems in the nation. It has 291ocations serving 47 suburban communities <br />with a population of approximately 608,000 people. It has earned a reputation for innovative <br />programs and services, many of which have become models for libraries across the nation. <br />WHEREAS, the Cuyahoga County Public Library has a mission of providing our <br />communities free and open access to information giving every person the opportunity for <br />enrichment, inspiration, and entertainment. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1 That this Administration and City Council recognizes the 75 years of <br />valuable service to the Cuyahoga County communities by the Cuyahoga County Public Library <br />and shares great pride in a library system that provides free, open, and equitable service to all <br />persons, provides the best possible access to a wide variety of materials, and focuses on <br />continuous learning and innovation. <br />Section Z That this Resolution sha11 take effect and be in force from and after the <br />earliest period allowed by law. <br />
