. <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION 92-182 <br />BY: MAYOR ED BOYLE AND THE ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING JUMP-START AMERICA, AND <br />DECLARING AN EMERGENCY, AS AMENDED. <br />WHEREAS, One in seven Americans has a job related to <br />the automobile industry; and <br />WHEREAS, The Consumer Confidence Index is at its <br />lowest point since 1974 and our overall economy continues to <br />decline; and <br />WHEREAS, A doctor in Warren, Ohio, has developed a <br />program designed to encourage employers to offer incentives <br />to employees who buy American-made vehicles; and <br />WHEREAS, That idea was converted into a program called <br />Jump-Start America; and <br />WHEREAS, Since this program began, more than 350 <br />companies representing 25 states have joined Jump Start <br />America; and <br />WHEREAS, The City of North Olmsted wishes to join in <br />this program and will offer one day off to any employee <br />purchasing a vehicle with 51 percent of its parts made in <br />the United States; and <br />WHEREAS, This offer will expire on December 31, 1993; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, The Jump Start America plan is not a form of <br />a form of protectionism, nor is it a subtle way to "Bash" <br />Japan but it is a way to help the U.S. economy "get going." <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That it is the desire of this Council to <br />allow one day of work off to an employee purchasing a new <br />vehicle consisting of at least 51 percent of parts made in <br />the U.S.
