! <br />CITY OF NORZZi OIMSTFD <br />RESOLU1TCK N0. 92-65 <br />BY: MAYOR ID BOYLE AND THE ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING JLIMP-START AMERICA AND DECLARING AN IIMEtGIIVCy ? <br />AS AMENDED. <br />WHEREA.S, One in seven Americans has a job related to the automobile <br />industry; and <br />WHEREA.S, The Consumer Confidence Index is at its lowest point since <br />1974 and our overall economy continues to decline; and <br />WFIEREAS, A doctor in Warren, Ohio, has developed a program designed to <br />encourage employers to offer incentives to employees who buy American-ma,de <br />cars and trucks; and <br />WHEREAS, That idea was converted into a program called Jump-Start <br />America; and <br />WHEREAS, Since this program began, more than 350 companies respresent- <br />ing 25 states have joined Jump-Start America; and <br />WFIFREAS, The City of North Olmsted wishes to join in this program and <br />will offer one day off to a full-time employee who purchases a car or truck <br />of the current model year with 51 percent of its parts made in the United <br />States; and <br />WHEREAS, This offer will expire on December 31, 1992; and <br />WHEREAS, The Jump-Start America plan is not a form of protectionism, <br />nor is it a subtle way to "Bash" Japan but it is a way to help the U.S. <br />economy "get going." <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TE]E COUNCIL OF TEiEE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED, COUN'i'Y OF CUYAHOGA AND gTA'I'E OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That it is the desire of this Council to a11ow one day of <br />work off to a full-time employee who purchases a new car or truck of the <br />current model year consisting of at least 51 percent of parts made in the <br />U.S.
