<br />,?.. <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION 92-50 <br />BY: MAYOR ED BOYLE AND THE ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING A PROPOSAL BY THE REGIONAL <br />TRANSIT AUTHORITY TO ELIMINATE CERTAIN NORTH OLMSTED <br />MUNICIPAL BUS LINE (NOMBL)-OPERATED BUS SERVICE ROUTES <br />THROUGH NORTH OLMSTED AND SURROUNDING SUBURBAN COMMUNITIES, <br />AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, Beginning on June 7, 1992, communities <br />serviced by North Olmsted Municipal Bus Line stand to lose <br />vital bus routes primarily effecting the elderly and <br />transit-dependent; and <br />WHEREAS, These routes are designed to link the suburbs <br />of North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls, Olmsted Township, Fairview <br />Park, Westlake, Rocky River and Bay Village; and <br />WHEREAS, These proposed route cuts will affect 60,000 <br />riders annually; and <br />WHEREAS, The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit <br />Authority (RTA) has proposed the elimination of the Great- <br />Northern - Center Ridge Route #53, which transported 17,500 <br />passengers in 1991; the Great Northern - Bay Village <br />Route #42, which transported 9,500 passengers in 1991; the <br />Great Northern - Olmsted Falls Route #89, which carried <br />9,100 passengers in 1991; and <br />WHEREAS, Thousands of other local riders will also <br />lose midday service with proposed cuts for the Lorain Road- <br />Westwood Route #87X and the Lorain Road - Butternut <br />Route #96X; and <br />WHEREAS, All the proposed route cuts feature vehicles <br />that are wheelchair lift equipped; and <br />WHEREAS, These route cuts are proposed for a 60-year- <br />old efficiently run bus line which has enjoyed consistent <br />ridership this year. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That it is the desire of this Council to <br />vehemently oppose the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit <br />Authority's proposed cuts to these service routes in June. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution shall take effect and <br />be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by <br />law.
