CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE NO.2025 - 56 <br />By: Mayor Jones <br />AN ORDINANCE A UTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO APPLYFOR AND <br />ACCEPT FUNDING FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2025-2026 DRUG USE <br />PREVENTION GRANT FOR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS (SRO) <br />FROM THE STATE OF OHIO ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE <br />DRUG GRANTPROGRAM, AND DECLARINGANEMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the School Resource Officer Program has existed since 1996 and has been <br />successful in helping youth in our community fight the harmful effects of substance use and abuse; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Ohio Attorney General's Office has made available to the City of <br />North Olmsted funding through its Drug Grant Program in the amount of $46,233.25 to support one <br />(1) full-time School Resource Office ("SRO") and two (2) part-time SROs, one each at the high <br />school, middle school, and grade school(s); and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council to apply for such funding in order to <br />continue and support the SRO Program. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1: That the Mayor be and she is hereby authorized to apply for a Drug Use <br />Prevention Grant with the Ohio Attorney General's Office in the amount of $46,233.25 and, if <br />awarded, she is authorized to accept the grant and to execute all documents necessary to effectuate <br />receipt of the same. <br />SECTION 2: This Council finds and determines that all formal actions of this Council <br />concerning and relating to the adoption of this Ordinance were taken in an open meeting of this <br />Council and that all deliberations of this Council and any committees that resulted in those formal <br />actions were in meetings open to the public in compliance with the law. <br />SECTION 3: That this Ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare, and for the <br />further reason that it allows the City to efficiently execute new SRO agreements with the school <br />district for approval at its next meeting, and further provided it receives the affirmative vote of two- <br />thirds of all members of Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its passage <br />and approval by the Mayor. <br />
