MINUTES OF THE FINANCE COMMITTEE <br /> May 17, 2021 <br /> Online Broadcast Meeting <br /> Present: Councilmembers Bullock, Litten, &Neff <br /> Also Present: Councilmembers O'Malley Kepple, Director Leininger, Chief Dunphy, Chief of <br /> Staff Storey, Commissioner Meyers, Director Corrigan, Engineer Papke, Director Ducu, Clerk <br /> Bach, & Deputy Clerk Lascu <br /> Start time: 6:00 p.m. <br /> AGENDA <br /> Approval of the minutes of the Finance Committee held April 19, 2021. <br /> Chairman Bullock made a motion, seconded by Councilmember Litten to approve the minutes of <br /> the Finance Committee meeting held on April 19, 2021. <br /> A roll call vote was taken as follows: <br /> Yeas —Bullock, Litten, Neff <br /> Nays —None <br /> Motion passed. The minutes were approved. <br /> ORDINANCE 15-2021 -AN ORDINACE to take effect immediately provided it receives <br /> the affirmative vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council, or otherwise to take <br /> effect and be in force at the earliest period allowed by law, amending Section 113.02, Fair <br /> Employment Wage of the Lakewood Codified Ordinances to increase the living wage to <br /> $15.00 per hour. (1st read and referred to Finance 4/19/21;2'd reading 5/3/21) <br /> Councilmember O'Malley gave an overview of the ordinance and the motivations behind its <br /> proposal. He spoke to the history of the minimum wage and the wages of city workers. <br /> Councilmembers expressed their support for raising the minimum wage for these positions. <br /> Councilmember O'Malley acknowledged that the administration has already enacted the wage <br /> changes and thanked it for its support. <br /> Mayor George expressed her support for the initiative and noted that the estimated impact of the <br /> raise is just$5,000 on the city's budget. <br /> Councilmember Litten questioned how the raise might impact other tiers of the wage scale for <br /> city employees. Director Dillinger stated that the administration could look at it, but understood <br /> that the wage disparities were significant enough where it would not drive up others. <br /> Councilmember Neff questioned whether the employees affected were union or non-union <br /> positions.
