Anderson, Bullock, George, Litten, O'Leary, RESOLUTION NO. 9099 -19 BY: O'Malley, Rader A RESOLUTION to establish a goal of one hundred percent clean energy for the City of Lakewood facilities by 2025 and for the community at large by 2035. WHEREAS, 139 U.S. cities, including Cleveland and Cincinnati, have already adopted ambitious 100% clean energy goals, and six U.S. cities have already hit their targets to generate 100% of the energy used community -wide from clean, non - polluting and renewable sources; and, WHEREAS, "renewable energy" includes energy derived from wind, solar, existing and low impact hydroelectric geothermal, biogas, and wave technology sources; and, WHEREAS, Lakewood's commitment to 100% clean energy will create good local jobs, reduce air pollution and other health risks, and save consumers money; and, WHERES, Lakewood has already made significant progress towards this goal by procuring 100 percent clean electricity for the City's two largest meters and 50 percent for all others, generating clean power at the wastewater treatment plant, and by planning for installation of solar panels on City facilities in 2020; and, WHEREAS, renewable energy now offers greater economic security, lower electricity costs, and a more affordable energy solution for individual consumers than ever before; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: Section 1. That this Council does hereby commit to a goal of one hundred percent clean energy for the City of Lakewood facilities by 2025 and for the community at large by 2035. Section 2. That this Council does hereby direct the administration develop a plan during FY 2020 that lays out a roadmap for the City of Lakewood to achieve these ambitious goals and to proactively seek input from the community in developing this plan. Section 3. That this Council will prioritize the lowest cost measures to meet energy needs to be mindful of the use of taxpayer dollars and any impact of consumers' personal expenses. Section 4. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such formal action, were in meetings open to the publ Adopted: 1 Approved: 6 Q f 2�/ z V o MAYOR gents.
