Anderson, Bullock, George, Litten, O'Leary, <br />RESOLUTION NO. 9099 -19 BY: O'Malley, Rader <br />A RESOLUTION to establish a goal of one hundred percent clean energy for the City of <br />Lakewood facilities by 2025 and for the community at large by 2035. <br />WHEREAS, 139 U.S. cities, including Cleveland and Cincinnati, have already adopted <br />ambitious 100% clean energy goals, and six U.S. cities have already hit their targets to generate <br />100% of the energy used community -wide from clean, non - polluting and renewable sources; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, "renewable energy" includes energy derived from wind, solar, existing and <br />low impact hydroelectric geothermal, biogas, and wave technology sources; and, <br />WHEREAS, Lakewood's commitment to 100% clean energy will create good local jobs, <br />reduce air pollution and other health risks, and save consumers money; and, <br />WHERES, Lakewood has already made significant progress towards this goal by <br />procuring 100 percent clean electricity for the City's two largest meters and 50 percent for all <br />others, generating clean power at the wastewater treatment plant, and by planning for installation <br />of solar panels on City facilities in 2020; and, <br />WHEREAS, renewable energy now offers greater economic security, lower electricity costs, and <br />a more affordable energy solution for individual consumers than ever before; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: <br />Section 1. That this Council does hereby commit to a goal of one hundred percent clean <br />energy for the City of Lakewood facilities by 2025 and for the community at large by 2035. <br />Section 2. That this Council does hereby direct the administration develop a plan during <br />FY 2020 that lays out a roadmap for the City of Lakewood to achieve these ambitious goals and <br />to proactively seek input from the community in developing this plan. <br />Section 3. That this Council will prioritize the lowest cost measures to meet energy needs <br />to be mindful of the use of taxpayer dollars and any impact of consumers' personal expenses. <br />Section 4. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning <br />and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, <br />and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such <br />formal action, were in meetings open to the publ <br />Adopted: <br />1 <br />Approved: 6 Q f 2�/ z V o <br />MAYOR <br />gents. <br />
