RESOLUTION N0. 86-5 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Carmen & Council as a Whole <br />A RESOLUTION OF RECOGNITION FOR <br />"NATIONAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE MONTH" AND <br />FOR CUYAHOGA COMMUNITY COLLEGE. <br />WHEREAS, approximately forty percent (40%) of all under- <br />graduate college students are enrolled in community, technical, and <br />junior colleges; and <br />WHEREAS, such colleges prepare students for employment in <br />over 1,400 different occupations or for transfer to four year colleges <br />and universities; and <br />WHEREAS, such colleges are within reasonable commuting <br />distance for more than ninety percent (90%) of all Americans and <br />furthermore provide an opportunity to obtain a post-secondary <br />education at low cost for many people who could not otherwise afford <br />one; ancl <br />WHEREAS, Cuyahoga Community College was the first and is the <br />largest community college in Ohio, serving over 24,000 students per <br />quarter and over 44,000 students annually at its three campuses in <br />Parma, Warrensville Township and Cleveland; and <br />WHEREAS, Cuyahoga Community College is the fourth largest <br />institution of higher learning in the State of Ohio; and <br />WHEREAS, President Reagan has declared February, 1986 as <br />"National Community College Month"; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Section 1. The Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village, <br />Ohio, do hereby extend their recognition and appreciation to all of <br />the community colleges throughout America and, specifically, to <br />Cuyahoga Community College for their flexible and diverse programs and <br />services tailored to fit the needs of their local populations and <br />industries. <br />Section 2. The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and <br />c3irected to forward a copy of this Resolution to Cuyahoga Community <br />College as a small token of the esteem in which that institution is <br />held. <br />Section 3. That the Council fincls and determines that all <br />formal actions of this Council relating to the adoption of this <br />Resolution have been taken at open meetings of this Council; and that <br />deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting in such <br />formal action, took place in meetings open to the public, in <br />compliance with all statutory requirements including the requirements <br />of Section 121e22 of the Ohio Revised Code.
