Resolution No. 78-12
By: Council as a Whole
A RESOLUTION OBJECTING TO CANCELLATION
OF ROAD MAINTENANCE SERVICES BY THE
COUNTY ENGINEER OF CUYAHOGA COUNTY AND
SEEKING RELIEF
WHEREAS, in Cuyahoqa County and in Mayfield Village in
said%County, the County Engineer has historically
provided basic road maintenance services for
designated County Roads; and
WHEREAS, lack of funds has caused the County Engineer to
announce that in the future such services will
be curtailed or eliminated; and
WHEREAS, the resultant burden falls unevenly on a Village
such as Mayfield, where the width and length of
affected roadways serving residents of other
municipalities is totally disproportionate to
the size of the municipality and its budget; and
WHEREAS, the sudden change in policy by the County Engineer
was ill-advised and respresents a lack of required
foresight by such officer; but
WHEREAS, the situation also calls into question the wisdom of
the members of the legislature of the State of Ohio
who have failed to provide a method for raising and
distributing funds adequate to maintain roads and
bridges to avoid crises such as these; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COIINCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT:
Sectson 1: This Council vehemer_tly opposes the drastic
cut in services initiated virtually Without warning by the
Cuyahoga County Engineer,
Section 2: This Council officially urges the members of
the General Assembly of the State of Ohio to seriously consider
emergency legislation to solve the immediate funding crisis
that exists w3th regard to the maintenance of local roads
and bridqes in the Counties and Municipalities of Ohio. The
Clerk is authorrzed and directed to certify copies of this
resolution to Senator Anthony O. Calabrese and Representative
Virginia Aveni and such other members of the Cuyahoga County
delegation as the Mayor deems appropriate.
