Minutes of a Special Meeting <br />H®ld November lla 1J50 <br />The Council of the Village of Mayfield met at the Town Hall in <br />Special PaI®~ting pursuant to not3.ce to all members, on tli® 11°th day of <br />Novembers 1950, at 5:00 a~~cloc~ PO M.9Mayor Gustav Swanson presid~.ngQ <br />Roll Call: Present.- Messrs Hardmans Scheux°inga Taylor, <br />Godfrey. and Cass <br />Absent Mro Ha11• <br />Mayor Swanson stated that applications had been received frc~n. <br />the followring msn for the.appointmsnt as policeman: <br />VVS,lliam Barnes <br />Mr• Hunt,. <br />Donald Petay <br />Harry Patterson <br />He advised Council that the Saf®ty Co~,tt®® preferred r!?x°a Petay at the <br />ti~crs of its meeting on the ~ sub ject, -but that he f®1t they v~ro_u1d noirr prefer <br />Mr. Pattersonv Mayor Swa?ason. and. Chief Daxon both spoke in favor of R~r, <br />Patterson, the Chief stating that he had_no.objection to 2~ hour duty_in <br />the event that Patterson did not movo into the V~.llageo Mayor Swanson <br />then appointed 1tflr• Patterson as policeman for a probationary 6 month periods <br />It was moved by _~`~ro._Godfreye seconded by Mr® Taylor, that the appointment <br />be conflirmed. <br />Roll Call: Ayes- Iv~essrs Hardmaxn, Scheuring, Taylors Godfrey & Cass• <br />Vat's -Non®, . <br />Mo~a.on Carx°3.ed <br />appointment. C"anffa..rmed <br />Pda~ror Swaaason briefly discussed the special police situation, <br />stating that TJtrr• Petay could be used in that capacity aid noting that the <br />pillage could prolna.se ham: the job would become #:1all time- in about two <br />years. He also advised that Mr® Ken Hill had called and volunteered to <br />serve part time as policemana. <br />The P2ayor suggested that prompt action should be taken with <br />respect to. installation of city mains serving ~e school. Pltr. 1~Yha~.tirig <br />advised Council that before any expenditures were under-takez~, the consent <br />of the propor~r own®rs along the proposed ma3xa for the levy of assessments <br />upon their property should be secured in a manner that is legal and binding, <br />He pointed out that~if these property owners are not perQra.tted to tap the <br />main then it is very doubtful that at~y benof°j.t has been conferred upon <br />their property and, if such is the cases that no assessment could be <br />collected over their objection. Tn that errant the entire cost of the <br />project would fall upon the villageQ <br />
