1 <br />R?ESOLUTION NO. 82- 14 <br />INTRODUCED BY : Council as. a Whole. .. .- <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE REDISTRICTING OF THE EXISTING <br />22ND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT AND URGING THE OHIO LEGISLATURE <br />TO PROVIDE FOR AN EAST SIDE CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT THAT <br />PROMOTES COMPACTNESS AND HOMOGENEITY. <br />WHEREAS, the State Legislature has begun reapportionment <br />and redistrict.ing of Congressional Districts in accordance with <br />the 1980 census; and <br />WHEREAS, both Houses have submitted plans and legislation <br />which severely alters the existing 22nd Congressional District <br />of which Mayfield Village is a part; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the opinion of this Council that proposed <br />redistricting plans limit the quality of representation Mayfield <br />Village has and now possesses in the United States House of <br />Representatives within the 22nd Congressional District of Ohio; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed redistricting plans neglect economic <br />and social factors and does not provide for the homogeneity of <br />various communities; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO THAT: <br />Section 1. Council on behalf of its members, urges the <br />Ohio State Legislature to abandon proposed.redistricting plans <br />and to create an alternative plan that provides for an East Side <br />Congressional District that promotes community compactness and <br />contiguity. <br />Section 2. The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized, <br />empowered and directed to forward copies of this Resolution to <br />the entire Cuyahoga County State Legislative Delegation and the <br />Clerks and members of other Councils within the existing 22nd <br />Congressional District so that they may pass similar Resolutions. <br />Section 3. That Council finds and determines that all <br />formal actions of this Council relating to the adoption of this <br />Resolution have been taken at open meetings of this Council; and <br />that deliberations of this Council and of its committees9 resulting <br />in such formal action, took place in meetings open to the public, <br />in compliance with all statutory requirements, including the <br />requirements of Section 121a22 of the Ohio Revised Code. <br />Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect at the <br />earliest time allowed by law.
